*A little history:* Eureka’s been mixing it up since the early ’70s, when the hillbillies, the hippies and the Christians hammered out a truce in a faded Victorian resort town, and nobody ever looked back. Eureka held its first Gay Pride parade in 1996, and Diversity Weekend grew up in the ’90s; Out in Eureka now hosts three a year. In 2007 the city opened a domestic partnership registry, and in May 2014, the day after a judge struck down Arkansas’s same-sex marriage ban, the courthouse in Eureka issued Arkansas’s first same-sex marriage licenses. Among the first couples married that day: our own Zeek Taylor (yes, the artist co-curating this weekend’s Queer Art Show) and Dick Titus, together for 50-some years.

**This week in the Holler** — a handful of picks:

**The Lullaby Hour** — Opal just announced a spontaneous set with two hometown legends. **Chuck Onofrio** is an OG Eurekan and a Denver fiddle champ who’s played with all kinds of projects (fiddle & big bass tonight). **Alex Hawf** is fresh off 1st place at the Kansas state mandolin competition and plays with Front Porch and Sprungbilly (vocals, guitar & mandolin). No cover, so tip the band.
Today, Sun Nov 1 · 4 PM — Chelsea’s

**Día de los Muertos in the park** — community altars welcome: light a flameless candle, share memories
Today, Sun Nov 1 – Mon Nov 2 — Basin Spring Park
Mon Nov 2 · 4 PM — **Carolina Mendoza** sings a full set in Spanish, sponsored by the new but already beloved Vintage Tone Co.

**Civic Soup** — Main Street’s “Civic Thanks” night: a warm bowl of soup, a short program, and Civic Star pins for six neighbors you nominated: **Richard Quick, Jordana Lipsitz, Doug Allen, Katie Zerr, Tom Mischo & Sam Dudley**. They’ll also make a giant constellation map of all the ways we’re connected. All ages; bring a crockpot of soup if you like. Free/donation.
Wed Nov 4 · 6–7:30 PM — Main Street Eureka Springs

**A Mary Springer Retrospective** — *Hammer, Chisel, Torch and Brush*. Mary came to Eureka more than 40 years ago to start an art school, and did: she co-founded the Eureka Springs School of the Arts with Eleanor Lux and Doug Stowe. Sculptor, metalsmith and painter, she began with large abstract works in metal, wood and stone. MESA and ESSA gather pieces from local collectors and both permanent collections; many are for sale. Opening reception, on view through Dec 27.
Thu Nov 5 · 5–7 PM — Museum of Eureka Springs Art

**Eureka Springs Poet Laureate** — our town’s *first* Poet Laureate, revealed live after readings by the six nominees: Lexi Brady, Jordan Rock, Wendy Taylor Carlisle, Hilka Irvin, Charles Templeton & Sierra Grogan. Free; RSVP, seating is limited. A little history: Crescent Dragonwagon and Ned Shank, who ran the Dairy Hollow House inn, started the Writers’ Colony in 1998, and Arkansas poet Miller Williams cut the ribbon in 2000\. Some 25 years on, it has hosted more than 11,000 writers from over 15 countries.
Fri Nov 6 · 6–8 PM — The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow

**The Boys in the Band** — this is a big deal. Mart Crowley’s 1968 play put gay men’s lives center stage, unapologetically, a year before Stonewall, and it changed American theater; its Broadway revival won the 2019 Tony for Best Revival. Directed by Gene Flake for Diversity Weekend, a fundraiser for Safe To Be.
Fri Nov 6 · 6 PM — Opening Night, Inspiration Point Center for the Arts
Sat Nov 7 · 6:30 PM — Inspiration Point Center for the Arts
Sun Nov 8 · 2:30 PM matinee — Inspiration Point Center for the Arts

**Veterans Day Parade** — Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, for the moment the guns of World War I went quiet: the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918\. Saturday, Eureka lines the street to say thank you to every veteran and everyone serving now. Bring a flag, and if you know a veteran, bring them along.
Sat Nov 7 · 1 PM — downtown, from Basin Spring Park
[Details →](https://www.facebook.com/share/188zVq2sBd/)

**5th Annual Flannel Fest** — family friendly: games, prizes, food & music, with **The Shandies**’ “fresh-squeezed harmony” at 5
Sat Nov 7 · 3–9 PM — Gotahold Brewing
